The Hancock Family Foundation is giving scholarships to graduating seniors from the Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City, Kansas, and Shawnee Mission, Kansas public school districts.  Applicants should be promising students who would otherwise not be able to afford a college education, but have the desire and potential to better themselves.  Once all applications have been reviewed, applicants will be informed of the committee’s decision by letter.  It is our policy not to provide an explanation for scholarship requests that are declined by the Selection Committee.

Scholarship Requirements:

                                                                                  

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY:


  1. •Demonstrated financial need (tax returns are mandatory:  parents’ joint tax return, or both individual returns if filed separately)


  1. •Graduating senior with B- or above average


  1. •Three letters of recommendation; one from a teacher, one from a member of the community (employer, pastor, etc.), and another one of applicant’s choice are required.


  1. •Must submit completed and signed application, official high school transcript, three letters of recommendation, and most recent tax return(s) by deadline, March 31, 2010.

 


COLLEGE AVAILABILITY:

 

  1. •Any in-state public college, community college or trade school (no private, technical or vocational schools).


  1. •Tuition, fees and/or books will be paid directly to the college each semester the student is enrolled.


 

 

CONTINUATION ELIGIBILITY:

The HFF scholarship is renewable; the selection committee will consider each student’s renewal individually at the end of each school year.


  1. •Student must maintain a C average or better to continue each semester (grades will be required to maintain enrollment and must be sent to the Foundation at the conclusion of each semester).


  1. •Two semesters must be taken each year with a full course load (12 hours or more) to continue receiving funds.


  1. •Students must resubmit parents’ tax returns (joint return or both individual returns if filed separately) at the end of each year to demonstrate that financial need still exists.
